BCA's strategic leadership program is designed to develop the leadership skills and behaviours of senior managers and their potential successors. The program provides participants with a challenging and enriching experience that will enable them to identify and develop the strategy, culture and behaviour that will make a difference to service excellence and business success.

ELEMENTS OF THE PROGRAM

The standard program comprises five key elements:

1. Leadership Effectiveness Analysis (LEA)

Developed by an international management research group, the leadership effectiveness analysis consists of a series of diagnostic questionnaires to be completed not only by participants, but also by their managers, peers and direct reports. The results of the 360 assessment are fed back to participants to raise awareness and understanding of their leadership style and its effectiveness. This feedback is then used as a platform for their professional development.

Leadership Effectiveness Analysis (LEA) is an accredited assessment tool that is used by major corporations such as Intel, NASA, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and Ernst & Young to evaluate their managers' behaviour against a wide range of effective leadership practices. BCA is licensed by the Management Research Group to use its LEA diagnostic feedback system.

2. Interactive workshops

A series of three workshops cover:

  • Current leadership theory and practice (including the theories of Drucker, Senge and Goleman, and the experience of Welch and other business leaders)

  • Strategic analysis of the participants' organisation

  • Development of projects that address strategic challenges facing the organisation

  • The LEA feedback process and its implication for leadership behaviour

  • Use of coaching/mentoring to enhance individual and team performance

The workshops are highly interactive and promote learning through extensive discourse leading to action.

3. Team projects

Participants undertake projects that were identified during the first workshop as being critical to the success of their organisation. The projects extend over six months and involve extensive collaboration within and across teams.

4. Personal coaching

A professional coach is assigned to each participant for the duration of the program. Coaches assist participants to interpret 360° feedback and to develop personal goals and action plans. They also provide ongoing feedback about participants' behaviour and style.

5. On-line support

Support is available to participants through BCA's website. Participants can access their coaching files, plan and manage team projects, exchange ideas and research current thinking on leadership.
